BN will contest in Kajang, says Muhyiddin

Barisan Nasional will field a candidate in the Kajang by-election as voters there have supported the ruling coalition in the past, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) said today.
The deputy prime minister said the cost issue of fielding a candidate did not arise as it was Pakatan Rakyat (PR) that pulled out, adding that BN had every right to field a candidate in the name of democracy.
“As usual, BN will nominate a candidate and it will not depend on who is contesting for the opposition.
“The party that caused this by-election is not BN, but the PKR assemblyman. When there is a vacancy in a democratic system, we are not going to let it go as BN had obtained a fair share of supporters from the constituency.
“Pakatan Rakyat did not get a big majority from voters there. We will make a decision after the Election Commission makes an announcement,” Muhyiddin said at a press conference today at the Education Ministry.
Yesterday, Selangor state speaker Hannah Yeoh announced the vacancy of the Kajang state seat after PKR assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh resigned with immediate effect.
At the last general election, Lee garnered 19,571 votes against BN candidate Lee Ban Seng’s 12,747 votes.
PKR de facto chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today announced that he will contest the coming Kajang by-election, as reported in The Malaysian Insider.
The announcement confirmed earlier media speculation of his entry into state politics, but Anwar has continued to dismiss talk of his rumoured plan to replace Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as menteri besar.
